Joe Allen – A Piece of Americana in Paris

Joe Allen is in business since 1972 serving American culinary classics to Parisians. For starters, try Eggplant fries with fennel yogurt and mascarpone sauce or the Buffalo wings. The grilled sirloin steak or Hamburger is as American as it gets with crisp hand-cut French fries.
Other American classics are also served- Caeser Salad, Spare Ribs, Corn on the Cob, Cheesecake, Brownies, and so on. You can’t go to an American restaurant and not have a cocktail – I like their Bloody Mary

Prices
Starters: 7-12 euros; Main Dishes: 14-22 euros; Wine: glass starts at 5 euros. Bottles start at 16 euros

Anahuacalli – Mexican Cuisine at its best

Tasty Queso con Chorizo (cheese & chorizo cassolette), Ceviche de Pesacado (fish marinated in lime, onions, tomatoes, olives), or a traditional Mole Poblano (turkey marinated in cacao and chili paste)? Anahuacalli has them all and much more.

Anahuacalli is not a Tex-Mex and serves authentic Mexican fare in a nicely decorated setting – check out the statues.

Hors d’oeuvres: 8-10 euros; Main Dishes: 18-23 euros; Desserts: 8 euros

Au Dernier Métro- Basque Liveliness in Paris

A friendly bistro serving Basque food and beer and always packed with people enjoying themselves. I love their crunchy pig ears (yes, you read that right) and cold cuts platters. Do check out the Basque cheese Ossau Iraty with blackberry jam. They have very good salads, tartines, omelettes and hearty main courses. The place to go if you are in the mood for a hearty feel good meal with dank basque beer or wine with a nice cold meat/cheese platter.

Les Artistes – Soft Lights & Good Food

New York style lighting and lounge ambiance – this is the first thing you notice when you enter Les Artistes. The cocktails are great – they actually have alcohol in them unlike in most Parisian cafés where cocktails are watered down versions of the original recipes.

Food is typically French with the occasional nod to fusion cooking. I particularly like the raviolis with cepes, tandoori prawns, hearty steak and chocolate tiramisu.

In summer, their outside sitting is a big draw with people having drinks until 2 am. Reservations are recommended.

Starters: 6.90 Euros; Mains: 17.90 Euros; Desserts: 6.90 Euros
Menus : 25.90 for 2 courses ; 29.90 for 3 courses.

L’ Afghanistan – Delicious Cuisine from a Rugged Land

So what is Afghani cusine all about?

Well you may say that it has Persian & Indian influences. This restaurant has delicious dishes – try the Qabely (lamb with rice, vegetables and dry fruits), the Shalgham (veal with turnips, rice and honey), or the Khorrmes (similar to the India kormas). Service might be at times slow but is friendly and helpful

Prices
Around 20-25 euros à carte without drinks.

Thai Yim – Authentic Thai Street Food

Thai street food at its best. A superb choice of starters and main dishes that are spiced according to your needs. The salads are out of this world with their variety of meats. My favorite starter is the crispy fish cutlets. Try also the entire beam fish that is deep fried and served in 10 minutes flat. Another favorite is pork/beef/duck stirred fried with green pepper and basilic leaves. Reservations are recommended.

Prices
Around 15 euros for a meal without drinks.

Al Wady – Tasty Lebanese Mezes

Perhaps the best Lebanese restaurant in Paris?

In any case, the dishes are prepared with a lot of attention to detail and the slight addition that makes a difference. For example, small pieces of seared liver are put on the top of the Homos, pomegranate seeds are added to the Moutabal. I would recommend that you go with the mezze to get a taste of the variety of dishes that this restaurant has to offer. Polish off your meal with their desserts – mafrouka or osmeille, moulabhiye, and fruits. Reservations are recommended

Prices
Mezze for 2: 41 euros; Starters: 4 to 13 euros; Main Dishes: 14 to 22 euros; Wine: 22 to 25 euros (bottle)

L’Equateur – Authentic African Cuisine with Emphasis on Senegalese Dishes

Friendly people greet you as you walk into this restaurant – you can see a lot of Africans enjoying their food with large bottles of Flag (Senegalese beer) or Palm wine. Check out their N’doles (beef, prawns or fish). The Thieboudienne, yassa chicken, and the maffés are out of this world.

In a nutshell, great food at a reasonable price.

Prices
A la carte: around 25 to 30 euros excluding wine; Wine: 20 euros onwards

Le Mauritius – Flavourful Food from a Beautiful Island at Reasonable Prices

Lively & friendly owner Danny goes out of his way to make sure that you enjoy your meal. He has been running this restaurant since 1988 and consistently served quality Mauritian food at reasonable prices.

I love their Satini (mashed aubergine with onions) and Mixed hors d’oeuvres sampler of their hors d’oeuvres) . Another favorite is boucané créole (smoked pork in a delicious and delicately spiced sauce) or their biryanis. And if you are in the mode for something extra spicy ask Danny for his Piment Achar. And all of this is served up in a nice, musical ambiance that transports you to Mauritius.

Prices
Hors d’oeuvres: 4-6 euros; Main dishes: 9-14 euro ; Wine : 14 euros onwards

Le Negus – Eat Succulent Ethiopian Food While the Owner Explains his Country’s History

This beautifully decorated restaurant is a hidden gem. A good way to explore Ethiopian cuisine is to go with the Ye Feseg which is a combination of four tiny dishes (fromage blanc, spicy beef & chicken, an egg and veggies on a crepe). If you have any questions, the owner will eagerly explain in detail the specifics of each dish.

Around 10 pm, the owner does a speech providing an overview of the food and history of Ethiopia – so you get both food and culture!

Prices
Hors d’oeuvres: 5-6 euros; Main dishes: 11-17 euro ; Wine : 20 euros onwards
